In search of my daily hero – today it is….Sonam :-)

Definition of hero:
1) a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for their brave deeds and noble qualities.
2) a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal

Some may think of the term hero as far reaching or someone of such high standing that one can not possibly be considered a hero. I would like to break this idea and mold. A hero for me is someone who is what is listed above but also at the same time are every day heroes. They don’t fly around in tights or wear capes; however, they do embody a stereotype of hero status…concealing their secret identity. You see, a hero is someone who gives of themselves. I find that we just have to talk to others, look around or just see what people are doing. I find every day heroes. People who are making a difference and just because it is the right thing to do.

Today one of my SIFE SFU students, Sonam Swarup, came to see me. She was telling me about her Banner Bags idea and wanting to help with the SFU Hockey team but then she also was asking me how I get so much done and where is my inspiration…a lot of deep questions. Well, lets consider the definitions above…Yes, noble qualities and yes to someone regarded as model or ideal…Sonam is my hero for today…Jan 23rd. Now she disagrees and I secretly think it is because she is concealing her secret identity like any great hero would, right?!

I encourage you to find out and tell the people around you or those strangers who are doing good that they are your daily hero. You will be amazed at the impact this has. They don’t look for the credit but it certainly makes them feel great for a job well done. I may just tap you on the shoulder and tell you that you are my hero for the day. So thank you Sonam for being my hero for more than just the one day…but today it is yours ?

On a side note…thanks to both Brian and John at Coast Hotels for their conversations. You know it is a great conversation when you are seated for an hour and you think only 15 mins has gone by…some great stories lads! Jillian, I also find I get Jillianized every time we talk. Right now, Jillianized is causing spell check errors and is not in the dictionary…but it is coming as a word I warn you. Get ready people to be Jillianized – defn – an encounter with Jillian Walker and realize your potential and feel like taking on the world.

We learn from each other. Now I am trying to recall if I repel you or if we are repelling 🙂
