Being Canadian in a room full of Canadians…great event, eh!

Recently I joined the Canadian Club of Vancouver. About a month and a half, I was helping facilitate at the Canadian Citizenship court and I was told about the Vancouver chapter of the Canadian Club. It sounded like a great organization and I did not even know they existed. If you like Canada and have pride and enthusiasm about being Canadian, then this is an organization you might consider joining…yearly dues are only $50 – http://www.canadianclubvancouver.com/Default.aspx The organization has been in place for over 100 years!

Today I attended the Celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The guest speaker was the Honourable Peter Milliken, former house speaker. The room was full of patriotic and interesting Canadians. There were many Order of Canada recipients and it is amazing to hear their stories.

Afternoon tea was enjoyable and as a person who enjoys their tea, it was fine tea ? The finger sandwiches, scones and desserts made for an enjoyable and relaxed sit down. The venue was beautiful and regal looking…a proper setting for high tea. Most of all, I enjoyed the company of some amazing Canadians. The Honourable Peter Milliken had some interesting stories on how the house functions and the role of the speaker. Sam Sullivan was the Emcee. If you want to feel Canadian pride and enthusiasm, make sure you come out to one of their events. I certainly had a great time…and it is great to celebrate all that is Canadian!

On a side note, I also got to catch up with two of my wonderful friends from BCHRMA. Deb and Elizabeth were wrapping up their AGM and I caught them just at the right time…reminded us that we have to do a proper catch up very soon.
