An adventure to build

Fitting that this is my 50th post…many more to go!

I get asked a number of times if I am doing a big birthday bash or what I want for my birthday. There are a number of things that are important to me but one that I am trying to work in as a must do and that is an adventure somewhere at the end of the year. I am not about that big party with a head table and speeches although my wife would like that. I would rather spend it in the company of my family/friends throughout the year and then there are my students/alumni…all of the people who matter to me…and there are many. Now I am not saying no to the party (double negative-hehehe) but it is not my priority but I might have to have one on the wishes of those around me.

Today I took a step towards an adventure… a 9 day African camping safari in Tanzania. This was just about finding information out and if this is doable. Unfortunately, my close friend can not make it so it is about continuing on and either see if anyone else is interested or a few who might be interested (max five more) or going solo with the guides. While 9 days seems short, I don’t want to be away too long from home but I still want to be able to have an adventure. The benefit is that the tour operator is only about 5 mins from my house here in North Vancouver and is reputable.

Today we met and talked about the trip and the area. It sounds fascinating and something I can get excited about as something that I thought about and acted upon and have wanted to do for years. Just like the last post…are you a dreamer or a doer…I choose both. Thierry is the one who runs Heritage Safari and I got a very good feel for this person and the passion he holds for this part of the world – http://www.heritagesafaris.com/ and the trip I am considering is a camping trip in the protected areas – http://www.heritagesafaris.com/9-day-adventure-camping-tanzania. Apart from airfare and a few minor expenses, everything is covered…an all inclusive safari ?

This is a work in progress and you will see how it goes as the year goes along. If you have wanted to go to Africa but never had the opportunity or reason, well, I am presenting it to you ? For me, this would be a very special way to celebrate my 50 years and something I will remember for years to come. Not often you can have elephants, lions, hippos etc to your party. Wish me well on this journey.

PS – I hope to have photos like the one I found and posted
