The universe makes me a Winner

A while ago, Neil Pasricha wrote The Book of Awesome. I have ordered this book and look forward to relating to his euphoria. I like his principle and it is in line with what I am trying to do – Discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary.

In this case, the universe has spoken and now I have to listen. I live in an area where there are three mountains in my backyard and then another world class resort just 1 ½ hours from my house…so why have I never skied or snowboarded? I guess I just never got into it but I have been thinking about giving it a try some time this year. About 3 weeks ago, I was in a Winners store not in my area but did find a nice winter jacket. It was a $380 jacket for $40. Can’t go wrong and you start looking for flaws…none found. Then today, at the Winners near my house, I found an $80 pair of ski goggles for $11 and they were the final remaining pair…and they fit. Again, no flaws to be found. I am wondering about the message here. Then, there in the clearance section and randomly tossed on top of the racks like a discarded item was the matching pair of ski pants for the jacket I bought 3 weeks ago (same colour) at a totally different store. It was almost like there was a divine intervention where the heavens opened up, the bright lights and angelic music started and the ski pants were there just for me. The ski pants were $220 for only $36 so I tried it on…and it fit like a glove! Are you kidding me! I just got a complete ski outfit that was for $660 for only $87!

So this is where the universe is now saying very loudly that I have to get to one of the peaks and try some lessons. This is a classic example of Neil Pasricha’s awesomeness. I think the discovery of the jacket was awesome enough but this just makes it a step up of amazing awesomeness. OK, so now I just have to figure out when. With the baby arriving in a matter of 9 days, can I squeeze an opportunity or do I wait for a couple of weeks and give it a try when things settle a bit. Stay tuned on this one as I undertake my first ever ski/snowboard lesson. Now, I have had an awesome moment today. Take time around you to start discovering the awesome things around you. Could be a parking stall that comes available right as you pull into a busy parking lot, a smile from a total stranger, your favorite song pops up randomly on the radio or any other number of extraordinary in the ordinary. It is not a decision of ‘if’ but a matter of ‘when’, I will be going up to the mountain and use this awesome opportunity.

PS – Two more awesome moments – Andrea and Vic came over today for a visit and it was lovely to see them. Also, while cleaning up, I just found $23 in change. Another couple of doses of awesomeness! I would say that today has been a very good day!
