We got to the hospital in a bit of a rush on Feb 22nd at 10:30pm as we knew the arrival of Sahil (our second) was fast approaching. As soon as we got there with our anxiety high, nervous energy and feeling a bit overwhelmed, we were met by Erin. She was the our nurse and immediately, her smile reassured us and we were in good hands. Just by a quick glance and her smile, I know I met someone who appreciates what she does. She calmed everything down for us.
Next morning, c-section was prescribed and we went on that journey. At 8:47am on Feb 23rd, Sahil was born. Now, Erin as a story would be over, right?! No, it turns out that she was assigned to us two nights. Our mind was back to ease again. I am not sure what it is about her, but every time she comes in, no task is too large or no request is too silly. I had to ask her how to turn the chair into a bed and with a flick of her wrist, it was done…she must have a magic wand ? I know that it is probably her job but she is not doing a job it is a calling. She goes about talking to people and putting them at ease and making people feel comfortable…that is beyond a job. She also does it with a smile. I hope she realizes how important that smile is at times that we had to go through.
I think the heavens were kind to us. To have Erin there when we arrived and during our time at the hospital is a good omen to me that our little guy was brought into the world with care, compassion and a smile. If that is Sahil’s first look at the world, we are off to a good start. Erin, thank you for taking the profession you did…you make a difference through the eyes of those you help.
Just another example of discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary. Fitting in that the name Erin has it in legend that she was one of three goddesses who represented peace, love and joy. You are all that.
Wow Sam… reading this entry is so uplifting! Knowing that there are people like you out there who appreciates others to the very bit. It encourages me to live my calling daily! Thanks and Sahil is blessed to be born to the Thiara family.
I have no shortage of the people I greatly appreciate. I am very honoured to have so many of you around me. It is the ONLY way we should go through life…take time to appreciate people, situations and things no matter now big or small…it may seem small but through someone elses eyes, it is huge.
Hi Sam
Congrats on being daddy x 2!!
What a beautiful entry, brought tears to my eyes.
Love
Jenny
