Building a cathedral called CaseIT

It is an amazing feeling to sit back and see 8 years of work come together. CaseIT is the Beedie School of Business’ signature case competition. I remember starting out 8 years ago and it was a very small internal competition with the vision to one day be an international competition. Over the last 5-6 years, it has been international and tonight was another rewarding night as we welcomed the world again. It is not often you can say that you can see growth, development and legacy. Rick Anotonson from Tourism Vancouver talks about Cathedral Thinking. This is the thought that the people who had a vision and laid the first stones of the cathedral knew they would never be around to see the completion of the project. It is rare to say that you can see how the legacy has been implemented and you have been able to see the completion of this cathedral that is CaseIT.

Nights like the closing ceremony only makes you wonder in amazement how a group of dedicated, students, alumni and faculty can come together to create something so rewarding. You know it is a great project when you can sit back and really don’t have to do much because they have been able to put all the measure means to continue and grow this. I am very proud of their work. For me, this was an evening to remember. I think what I appreciate is that everyone rolls up their sleeves and gets to it to make sure it is done well and they protect the integrity of the competition. I also enjoyed seeing our dedicated alumni who year after year, make sure they come back and be part of the competition. At the closing banquet, we are either going to have to find a bigger venue or reduce teams because the alumni who come back will continue to grow…I think we will just pick a larger venue ? There are many to mention but I will say a few names (and as I continue to get names, it will grow), Paul Cyr, Somnath Suresh, Rey Lim, Andrew Kumar, Zeph Wong (could not make this year), Stephen Lee, May Yu, Brian Luong, Amanda Yeo, Steven Chia, Jenny Chau, Paulina Siu. For Nima Sarhangpour and Gordon Swenson…thank and your army of volunteers for a great show (special shout out to Julian Fok for his continued eye to capture the event). Guys, this is your cathedral!
