June 30, 1962 – at 199 Derby Road, Southampton, I took my first breath. Yes, I was born at home and the journey to today started. Every time I venture to England, I go back to 199 Derby Road to see the house.
Today, I woke up like most any day but today is different, I turn 50 years old. There were no celebrations, streamers or bands to welcome the milestone. I don’t feel any different physically or mentally…the time just keeps going. While there are celebrations planned, this milestone I crossed solo – into a quiet house while my family slept. This is the time where I reflect on the moment in quiet celebration.
At times, I try and comprehend the amazing people I am surrounded by, the memorable experiences that I have encountered and the stories I have been able to live. I cherish each and every one of you and as individuals and you have all made some sort of impact in my life and for that I am grateful. I have always said that the two words I have always tried to live are authentic and genuine. They are important words for me because they are my foundation. My favorite saying – “Everyone’s life is an autobiography…but make yours worth reading!’ Has been my signature and tag line. If those are my two words and tag line…what are yours. Mine have taken me on a 50 year journey and beyond. Joe Segal said that turning 50 is not half life. Most of us will live to 80. If that is the case, turning 50 means you have 3/8ths of your life left. I commit to make the final 3/8ths even more memorable. Thank you for the friendship, memories and the journey forward…I am embracing 50 and look forward to many more years with you.
