Synergy 2012 is happening. This is a club best practices conference for all the schools in the lower mainland hosted by Beedie School of Business. It was a vision and idea that came to me two years ago at 3am (some of the best ideas happen at this time and sometimes in the shower). Last year, it was a success and then a dedicated team, led by Phyllis Lai, became the organizing committee for this year. You know that things are running well when they take the reins and pull the conference together.
This event was the one that I decided to step out of and not attend as I needed to pull away. It was the catalyst I needed to make me realize that I am not bigger than the event and while the vision was created, others can take it forward with their ideas, thoughts and initiatives. While it was difficult to, it was the right thing to do. It was through Synergy organizing and stepping away, that I felt relief that I could step away from my position and things will run well.
I am getting snippets on twitter and it sounds like all is running well. Not surprised at this. Those at the helm have made this their goal and they have ownership. I am very proud of them for putting this on. As a result of a small group of people organizing and an army of volunteers, there will be a number of students benefiting.
I did just get tweeted that while I am not there, there is a life size image on Derek Moscato’s power point and a shout out from Jillian Walker. Not sure what was said but I guess I am still there in spirit if not in person ? So synergy happens even without a presence. That is a very good thing!
