Yesterday I attended an all day workshop on writing, publishing and promoting your book. One of the 50/50-2012 goals has been to publish a book in 2012. Packed with my notepad, pen and mind, I attended the event with my co-author Adam Cotterall. Both of us have wanted to write and get a book out there for some time and this 50/50-2012 adventure is the catalyst to make it happen.
The book is about storytelling. We all have stories but we don’t realize it. Much of the 50/50-2012 journey I am on is to share the extraordinary in the ordinary and to help you realize that there is significance and opportunities all around you. Don’t trivialize the things around you. My almost 50 posts are testament that we have things happening to us all around but we just have to train ourselves to be aware of what is around us. We want people to be able to explore, reflect and share their stories with others. The book will provide what personal storytelling is about, some of my personal stories to demonstrate how you can be reflective and find stories and finally, how you can create your own stories.
At the workshop, the presenter asked us if we were dreamers or doers. Do you dream your goals but that is all it is…a dream, or do you pursue it…you need to be a doer. Are your dreams locked behind a high wall and remains behind that wall because you have not taken action? With me, first, I need to dream the book. I need to dream the content. I need to dream my life. At the same time, I need to make sure I put it to action and work to get things done otherwise it is only a dream and it rests with me. I need to share my dreams with you all and the only way to do that is to also be a doer. This book is a dream that is being realized and Adam and I are both doing all we can to not only realize the dream but to make it something of value. I will say that Adam is invaluable as a co-author and I am thankful he is on this journey.
So are you a dreamer or a doer? You have to be both or that dream will remain behind that wall. Think about something you have wanted to do and start with a small action and put it to being a doer. Find the enablers and champions in your life so they help you make it into an action. Take a dream or something you have always wanted to do and start the journey to being a doer by taking a first small step. You would be amazed at how this will start a snowball of activity and pull that dream out of the shadows of the walls.
