There are many kinds of adventures for ‘Sam’s 50/50-2012’ and today’s is a tasty one…a culinary adventure of the legendary kind. The Tomahawk restaurant in North Vancouver is an establishment. Anything that started in the 1920’s and still exists today is iconic. I think you can ask any North Shore long time resident and they have all eaten at the Tomahawk some time in their life. http://www.tomahawkrestaurant.com/index.html. You walk in and the amount of First Nations art is impressive…like a museum of sorts and the best part is each one has a story to tell. If you have not visited it, get in your car, bus or walk there from where ever you are…you will not be disappointed. Chuck Chamberlain is the owner and greets everyone with a smile…one of the reasons why it is legendary…you don’t get to be a success by accident.
One of my favorite student/alumni, Fred Bantados, and I have decided to visit the Tomahawk for breakfast and their legendary Yukon Breakfast…the stuff legends are made of ? I think Fred and I would run any ‘all you can eat buffets’ out of business. Fred is one of those individuals that you can make all the time in the world for. He is considerate, hard working and well liked. He was my co-op student and was very well respected by the people in our department…I never worried about the quality of work or if it was going to be done. One thing about Fred though is (sadly) he has a weakness. Now some people might say it is about taking on too many challenges or trying to overcome shyness. Fred’s weakness is bacon…so we are going for bacon overload. See the description of the Yukon Breakfast from their menu:
“YUKON-STYLE BACON & EGGS
This is it. The one that started the Legend! Five generous slices of Yukon-style bacon. Two country-style eggs served fried or scrambled, a heaping portion of golden-griddled hash brown potatoes, and two thick slices of Klondike toast.”
So getting together with a stellar person and a legendary breakfast at an iconic North Vancouver establishment is a recipe for a great time and a shout out post on the 50/50-2012. We did not have to venture all the way to the Yukon to get this breakfast…but that would certainly be an adventure. Shook Chuck’s hand on the way out and thanked him. Chuck and the Tomahawk are both legendary…so is Fred!
